Counselling Services

I offer individual psychodynamic counselling for those seeking a thoughtful, confidential space to explore difficulties in their lives. People come to counselling for many different reasons — some with a clear sense of what they want to work on, others with a more general feeling that something does not feel quite right. You do not need to arrive with a clear problem or goal; we can take time to understand what has brought you to seek support.

Psychodynamic counselling focuses on exploring how past experiences, particularly early relationships, can influence how we feel, think, and relate to others in the present. Rather than working only with surface difficulties, the therapy offers space to reflect on emotional patterns, responses, and ways of relating that may have developed over time. This process can support greater understanding, self-awareness, and emotional clarity.

Sessions are usually held on a weekly basis and last 50 minutes. I offer counselling both in person and online, with flexibility around session times to support continuity while remaining responsive to individual circumstances. The work is collaborative and paced carefully, with attention to creating a relationship that feels safe, respectful, and containing.

Psychodynamic Counselling

Psychodynamic counselling is offered as an ongoing, weekly space where individuals can explore emotional difficulties in depth, rather than working solely towards short-term solutions. The focus is on creating continuity and reliability, allowing themes, feelings, and patterns to emerge naturally over time. This approach supports work that is not rushed and is shaped by the individual’s needs rather than a fixed programme or agenda.

The counselling provides an opportunity to look more closely at how current difficulties may be connected to earlier experiences, particularly within relationships. Attention is given not only to what is discussed in sessions, but also to how feelings arise in the therapeutic relationship itself. This can offer valuable insight into familiar ways of relating, coping, or protecting oneself, and how these may continue to influence daily life.

Psychodynamic counselling can be helpful for individuals who want to develop a deeper understanding of themselves, their emotional responses, and their relationships with others. The work is collaborative and reflective, with space to think together about experiences that may feel confusing, repetitive, or emotionally demanding. Over time, this process can support lasting change through increased self-awareness and emotional understanding.

How Sessions Work

Sessions are offered as a regular, confidential space to support continuity and depth in the work. They are shaped collaboratively, with attention to reliability, flexibility, and your individual circumstances.

In Person

In-person sessions take place in a private, calm setting, offering a dedicated space away from everyday demands. Meeting in person can provide a strong sense of presence and containment, allowing time to focus fully on the work without interruption.

Online

Online sessions are offered via a secure platform and can be a helpful option if attending in person is not possible or practical. It is important that you are able to join sessions from a private, quiet space where you feel comfortable speaking freely and are unlikely to be overheard or interrupted.

Frequency

Sessions are usually held on a weekly basis to support continuity and depth. I offer weekly counselling with flexibility around the day and time of sessions where needed, recognising that work, caring responsibilities, or shift patterns can make fixed times difficult to maintain.

Practical Information

Sessions are 50 minutes in length and are usually held on a weekly basis. Counselling is offered in person or online, depending on what feels most appropriate and practical. In-person sessions are currently offered across Hertfordshire (or Hertsmere – locations to be confirmed).

Fees are discussed openly during initial contact, before any sessions take place. I aim to be transparent and clear so that you can decide whether counselling feels manageable and right for you at this time. In some cases, fees may also be listed on external professional directories where you may have found my details.

If you have any questions about practical arrangements, availability, or location, these can be explored during initial contact. There is no obligation to proceed — the first conversation is an opportunity to ask questions, clarify expectations, and consider whether this feels like the right next step for you.

Professional Standards

Professional Standards and Assessment

My work is guided by the BACP Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions, which sets out clear standards around confidentiality, professional boundaries, and ethical practice. These principles underpin all aspects of my work and are discussed fully before any counselling begins.

Before making any ongoing commitment, an initial assessment session is offered. This provides an opportunity for us to think together about what has brought you to therapy, what you may be hoping for, and whether psychodynamic counselling feels like the right approach for you at this time. It is also a space for you to ask questions and get a sense of how it might feel to work together.

Details about confidentiality, boundaries, and practical arrangements are shared clearly before the first session, so you can make an informed decision without pressure. There is no expectation to continue beyond the assessment unless it feels appropriate and workable for you.
